41. WHERE HAVE MY DREAMS GONE?

where have my dreams gone?
dreams of time immemorial
to which I was not chained
but swimming in colored glass
I hear the sigh of sound
filling an hourglass
waiting for silence
to tell me it’s over
memory comes in a cloud of pain
filling my future empty
with transparent shade pictures
that I know will never be
oh someone tell me it’s not so
and you all come around
with your comforting advice
but your dreams aren’t even mine
for a while there’s a girl
we share the same dreams
but then we cross through each other
and walk along shadow paths, silent
still I keep seeing new mornings
forgetting the night ahead
walls that seem solid
until I walk relentlessly through
give me no promises
to stop the earth turning round
just share my time a while
I’ll keep my shoes by the door.

Amazon e-book page Thank you for reading. If you love it, tell your friends. Please post a favorable review at Amazon, Good Reads, and other online resources. If you want to thank the author, you may also buy a copy for the low price of a cup of coffee. It's called Read-a-Latte: similar (or lower) price as a latte at your favorite coffeeshop, but the book lasts forever while the beverage is quickly gone. Thank you (JTC). PS: I wrote most of these poems (except the title poem, October Leaf) as a teenager, so I published them under the pseudonym A. T. Nager.
